It runs over 8 tutor led days with structured self study and is delivered remotely

Course Duration

Eight tutor led days from 09:00 to 17:00 delivered remotely via Microsoft Teams, plus structured self study and practice tasks, using nuclear case studies and simulations to prepare for the PFQ exam.


Eligibility

Open to adults 19+ who live in Cheshire. If self employed or unemployed you must reside in Cheshire. If employed and employer sponsored your primary workplace must be in Cheshire. All places are subject to Skills Bootcamp eligibility checks for programmes serving the nuclear sector.


Course Audience

Career changers moving into project delivery for nuclear projects, early career professionals with Level 2 or 3 aiming at regulated environments, and employees upskilling into project coordinator or assistant project manager roles across new build, operations, decommissioning and the nuclear supply chain.


Funding

Fully funded for eligible individuals not sponsored by an employer. Employer sponsored learners contribute 10% if at an SME or 30% if at a large employer, the balance is government funded. The PFQ exam is included to support progression into the nuclear workforce.


Qualifications Gained

APM Project Fundamentals Qualification, Level 4. Training aligns to the APM Body of Knowledge and applies core principles to nuclear project delivery, including planning, risk, quality and stakeholder engagement in a regulated context.


Outcome

Practical skills to plan and control work on nuclear projects, confidence working within safety culture and regulatory expectations, recognised certification, and for eligible learners routes to interviews with employers in the North West nuclear cluster.


Course Modules

1. Intro to the Nuclear Industry and Project Management

Understand what projects are, how the UK nuclear sector is regulated and what the project manager does, with clear pathways into roles and salaries. ​

2. Project Life Cycles, Planning and Scope Management

Explore linear and iterative life cycles including agile, build a robust project management plan covering scope, stages and documentation.

3. Risk and Issue Management and Stakeholder Engagement

Apply risk and issue control, plan change and engage stakeholders effectively with practical communication and resilience techniques.

4. Project Controls and Performance

Use budgeting, schedule and resource control to monitor performance, practice evidence capture and reporting ready for assessment.

5. Data and AI in Project Management

Use data analytics for planning, risk, reporting and lessons learned, then see where AI supports planning, risk and quality activities.

6. Sustainability and Systems Thinking

Cover ESG and systems thinking so delivery decisions balance environmental and social considerations with project outcomes.

7. Mock PFQ Exam and Mock Interviews

Prepare with CIAG, tailored CV and interview practice, complete mock assessments and receive feedback to fine tune performance.

8. PFQ Exam and Employer Interviews

Sit the PFQ exam, meet partnering organisations, receive feedback and guidance on applications, with resit support where required.
