“It is time for a nuclear renaissance” - Boris Johnson

Updated: Dec 17, 2020

Following questioning from Trudy Harrison, MP for Copeland new Prime Minister Boris Johnson responded by saying that “It is time for a nuclear renaissance and I believe passionately that nuclear must be part of our energy mix.“ the PM added further that “It will help us to meet our carbon targets.“

He did finish by stating that “the pessimists on the other site think are too ambitious“ making the insinuation that the opposition party do not buy into net zero carbon target In which a target for the UK to achieve net-zero greenhouse gases by 2050 has been previously set by government.

This is great news for the nuclear industry and the creation of thousands of new jobs. It comes in the week that the Government also commenced a consultation into funding large-scale nuclear power stations and a proposed £18million investment into small modular reactors (SMR).
