Theresa May pledges £600m boost for nuclear submarines

UK prime minister Theresa May has announced a £600m increase in the Ministry of Defence’s budget for 2018-19 to fund Britain’s next generation of nuclear submarines.

Mrs May told the House of Commons on Wednesday that the extra money would be accompanied by the release of a further £200m for the MoD, taken from underspending by other departments. Although the £200m was assigned to the current financial year, the MoD said it had brought forward payments due next year, releasing extra cash for the 2018-19 budget.
