Overview / Responsibilities Wood are seeking a range of engineers with varying skill sets, from skilled and experienced professionals to driven early career candidates, to be based in our Bristol office. You will be working within an established yet growing team operating within Wood's Consultancy & Defence Business, supporting the Ministry of Defence Nuclear Submarine Programme and a growing portfolio of customers within the South West area.

These roles enjoy a considerable degree of autonomy and would be ideal for a self-motivated engineer looking to apply their knowledge and experience in a variety of challenging and exciting applications. You will be expected to deliver with honesty and integrity, acting as an ambassador for both Wood and the client. Role responsibilities are varied depending on the task or client but will require technical and safety knowledge, consultancy skills, an ability to present with confidence, and experience in delivering projects to time, cost and performance. Wood supports the Ministry of Defence in a number of locations, and the successful candidate will need to be flexible to help deliver this scope of work.
Skills / Qualifications
Experience within the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme and detailed knowledge of Naval Reactor Plant
Excellent communications and presentation skills
Relevant science or engineering academic qualification
Ability to work across a range of tasks and liaise with stakeholders at all levels
Flexibility with the ability to travel as the demands of the role dictate
Working knowledge of safety case constructs and production
Working knowledge of UK regulatory systems and the organisations involved
A strong self-starter, able to work confidently and often un-supervised
Must be a UK national and able to obtain the required security clearances

This is a great opportunity for Engineer with experience within the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme and detailed knowledge of Naval Reactor Plant.
The job specification is quite generic with it being key that the candidate must be a SQEP (Suitably Qualified Experienced Person) civil/ structural engineer with experience and background working with ability to have/gain security clearance.
Okay; so let's look at the six steps to get into nuclear:
#1 Know who you are: you are or have been an engineer in with experience within the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme and detailed knowledge of Naval Reactor Plant. You pride yourself on driving high standards and exceptions from within a project team.
#2 Know what you want: You are willing and able to work in Bristol and are looking for the opportunity of a role in which you are fully familiar with and and expert in whilst being given the chance to bring this experience and your transferable skills to another exciting project.
#3 Know the Business: this is quite a specific role but one that isn't specific to the nuclear industry so there are definitely opportunity to transfer skills from other industries into this role. Wood are a major player in the industry so there are no concerns there.
#4 Know the Skills: as you can see the roles are quite generic from an engineering perspective which is understandable as they are looking for a number of different engineering roles. Again the experience within the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme and detailed knowledge of Naval Reactor Plant is key and it is always worth considering that you need to meet the vetting requirements as a minimum.
