The Challenge

A fast-evolving public corporation, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is committed to shaping the future of regulation in the UK Nuclear Industry. To help them achieve their ambitions, they need Project Managers who can hit the ground running and deliver successful change within the organisation.

The Role

In joining our PMO you will get involved in a range of projects focused around people, digital, regulation or finance. Able to make an impact from day one, you’ll have the chance not only to design projects, but also see them through to successful delivery.

You’ll shape and lead major change initiatives to enable the realisation of business strategies while optimising resources and benefits across projects to ensure the delivery of outcomes that meet cost, quality and timescale objectives. Working as part of a dynamic team, you’ll help to establish ONR as a mature, world-class regulator.

The Person

Operating as a Project Manager (or in a similar role), you’re working closely with or for the public sector on complex change projects. Known for your resilience, adaptability and sheer enthusiasm for making things happen, you’ll be an expert in detail, delivery and risk management. You will also act on your own initiative to drive momentum and delivery, overcoming obstacles by working as part of a team. Able to take ONR with you though the delivery and management of change, you’ll lead by example as the ONR develop and transform.

A current project management qualification, such as Prince 2 Practitioner, Agile, MSP, or equivalent, will be essential. Above all, your flair for developing effective project teams, will make you stand out.

They offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £37,670 – £45,106. Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for an incredibly substantial Civil Service Pension scheme and a very generous holiday entitlement.

About the Employer

ONR is a Public Corporation with a mission to ensure the highest standards of safety and security across all of the UK’s licensed nuclear sites. Their staff are drawn from a wide range of professional backgrounds in order to run a stand-alone business. There are specialist inspectors working in core functions including: civil engineering, radiological protection, human factors, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear physics, in addition to specialised corporate services that support operational delivery. And, together, they’re involved in everything from assessing safety cases, inspecting nuclear sites and communicating decisions, to training new recruits, implementing policies and representing the UK and ONR within the wider, international nuclear community.

This is a great opportunity for anyone who have the relevant qualifications and experience of project management within a delivery environment.

The job specification is quite generic with it being key that the candidate must be a SQEP (Suitably Qualified Experienced Person) project manager with experience and with ability to have/gain security clearance.

#2 Know what you want: You are willing and able to work in the Liverpool and are looking for the opportunity of a role in which you are fully familiar with and and expert in whilst being given the chance to bring this experience and your transferrable skills to another industry - the nuclear industry. #3 Know the Business: this is a relatively specific role but one that isn't specific to the nuclear industry so there are definitely opportunity to transfer skills from other industries into this role. #4 Know the Skills: as you can see none of the key job requirements to land this role are highlighted as nuclear specific. Previous experience in the UK Nuclear Industry is not a pre-requisite or barrier to entry for this role.
