Job Description

nucleargraduates is a ground-breaking graduate programme created by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and sponsored by organisations across the nuclear industry including Rolls-Royce, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) and Sellafield Ltd amongst others.

Sellafield Ltd is responsible for safely delivering decommissioning, reprocessing and nuclear waste management activities on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority at the Sellafield plant in West Cumbria.

Sellafield’ s primary operations include; Risk and hazard reduction including decommissioning legacy ponds and silos, some of the oldest facilities on the Sellafield site, commercial operations including spent fuel management, the safe treatment of low level, intermediate level and high level waste and asset care and maintenance.

As one of the most complex nuclear companies in the world, Sellafield Ltd offers some of the most technically and commercially challenging projects within the nuclear industry.

In an exciting time for the nuclear industry, Sellafield Ltd are looking to sponsor a graduate on the nucleargraduates programme to support the Business Strategy department.

You can expect to find yourself supporting the development of the Corporate Strategy, establishing the direction for the business, setting the organisational vision, mission and strategic themes and objectives. Understanding the wider environment and context in which Sellafield Ltd operate and considering the impact this may have on the organisation, their operations and future strategy. You will help maintain the appropriate systems and technologies to support strategy development and decision management, working closely with the knowledge management team to retain and understand key business knowledge. There will be the opportunity to work collaboratively with the Heads of Technical and Strategy within the business to ensure alignment of technical strategy activities with the business activities and to share best practice. Finally, you will work closely with the Enterprise Portfolio Office to support the site prioritisation process.

Upon completion of the nucleargraduates programme you will join Sellafield Ltd to continue your professional development.

Your nucleargraduates programme will be broken down into technical and behavioural training. It will be structured against the needs of the institute with whom you’re aiming to gain chartered status. You will come together with your fellow graduates to complete ‘core’ training as well as having the benefit of an individual training budget for training specific to your personal development.

On top of this you will spend 10% of your time with us to Footprints, our corporate social responsibility programme. You will have the opportunity to become a STEM ambassador, passing on your knowledge and enthusiasm to the next generation of scientists and engineers. You will establish a start-up company, developing your commercial awareness and allowing your appreciation of the challenges faced by a small business. You will work with local community projects, meeting inspirational individuals.

Minimum Eligibility Requirement

Candidates must have an attained or expected result of 2.2 or above in Economics, Political Science, Business or a related disicpline.

Security Requirements

Candidates will be subject to Office of Civil Nuclear Security (OCNS) Clearance Checks.

Travel Details

Applicants must be willing and able to move around the UK and overseas to complete secondments and training whilst on the nucleargraduates programme. Extensive travelling is required with relocation across the UK essential in order to complete secondments.

Application Process

Following an initial sift of applications successful applicants will be invited to complete online verbal, numerical and logical reasoning tests with a Situational Judgement Questionnaire followed by a video interview then a two-day assessment centre that will assess candidates across a range of competencies.

After the assessment centre, successful candidates will be made a formal offer of a place on the nucleargraduates programme.

#3 Know the Business: Sellafield Ltd is one of the largest employers in the UK nuclear industry managing one of the most complex sites with the most complex and critical projects in the world. As such they have a huge amount of responsibility on their shoulders. With the changes to the industry and in the wider industry being part of the 'nuclear renaissance' it is a great opportunity for roles within the UK Industry that may not have existed previously.

#4 Know the Skills: regarding this role the skills, qualifications, experience and competencies are that of any similar role within any industry. Where the difference could be on the successful candidate is in the application process itself.

For online verbal, numerical and logical reasoning tests there are a number of free online resources, to name a couple. They are psychometric aptitude tests which are well worth brushing up on before doing the real thing to sharpen up.

Situational Judgement Tests assess how you approach situations encountered in the workplace. They test your suitability for a particular role.

The final stages are a video interview followed by a two-day workshop.
