Due to recent significant contract successes, WYG are looking to expand their nuclear engineering team. This is an exciting opportunity for engineers of all levels with a passion for civil and structural engineering design to get into nuclear by joining the WYG engineering team in either Chorley or Cumbria on the edge of the Lake District. They are looking for engineers of all levels of experience to work within the team.
You will bring with you a suitable level of technical expertise, management and commercial experience and engineering knowledge, and the desire and ability to continually enhance our service offering to new and existing clients. You will play an active role in providing all kinds of engineering solutions to technically complex problems across a broad range of projects in numerous industry sectors, from private residential and commercial developments to large complex engineering challenges in nuclear decommissioning.
Significant investment in Cumbrian infrastructure is on the horizon, due to the county’s nuclear new-build programme now gaining momentum and the associated non-nuclear built environment enhancements needed to support it. This opportunity is therefore advertised at an exciting time for engineering in Cumbria and an exciting time for all looking to get into nuclear.
WYG are looking for ambitious and experienced engineers with sound knowledge and experience of civil and structural engineering who would like to join the WYG dynamic team.
You will be involved in the technical aspects of projects, as part of or leading small teams and deliver innovative design solutions from inception through to the production of detailed construction information in accordance with industry procedures to satisfy or exceed client requirements. It will include new build and refurbishment projects in a variety of sectors.
You will work closely with the WYG Project Managers, other members of the team, and the wider national engineering team to ensure that each project is delivered successfully.
You are a chartered, or near chartered engineer with strong technical knowledge and experience of delivering civil and structural engineering projects and of managing these to meet deadlines. You have an understanding of, and experience in, the civil nuclear industry, and are looking to continue working in the environment and getting into nuclear.
You understand and operate within management systems for quality, financial and project controls and have good commercial management experience and knowledge of change control.
You are a keen, progressive, versatile individual, and you are willing to go the extra mile to ensure work is delivered correctly, accurately and on time even if it includes, on occasion, working outside of normal office hours.
You have a strong commitment to knowledge acquisition, CPD, and mentoring engineers within the office.

Get Into Nuclear
This is a fantastic opportunity of getting into nuclear for someone who is an experienced Civil and Structural Engineer who has worked in a regulated industry who is looking to get into nuclear.
Looking at this opportunity by applying the Get Into Nuclear six step process to finding your way to getting into nuclear would look something like this:
#1 Know who you are: you are an experience Civil and Structural Engineer who has experience of working in a regulated industry (i.e. working to stringent technical and quality requirements). You are hard working and happy to work outside of the normal working day if and when required to ensure successful delivery of your nuclear project. Specific nuclear experience would be much preferred but should not be a barrier to you submitting your interest to apply for the job.
#2 Know what you want: you want to continue to working in civil and structural engineering projects and would like the chance to work within one of the most prominent companies in the UK Nuclear Industry.
#3 Know the Business: there is a continued need for design engineers within the UK Nuclear Industry and particularly civil, structural and architectural engineers. This demand is only going to rise and sustained opportunities are around to stay and companies such as WYG will be picking up a lot of the new nuclear projects.
