The SZC Project is a ~£20bn nuclear new build project in Suffolk which is currently seeking planning approval and financing from the Government and investors, with a view to start construction in 2023. The Employment Affairs Unit (EAU) is a fundamental part of delivering a successful SZC construction project and is the focal point around which the co-ordination and integration of the delivery of our construction workforce strategy and industrial relations will be implemented and managed. With an expected total contractor population of c.25,000 over the life of the project with up to c.5,600 on site at one time, this will be an exciting, fast-paced and, at times, challenging place to be.
As Head of SZC EAU, you’ll be the HR lead for the design and establishment of the SZC EAU, applying the principles of intelligent replication of the arrangements in place at our sister construction project in Somerset, Hinkley Point C (HPC). Once operational, you’ll lead activity supporting workforce mobilisation, education and skills and operations (compliance and governance, job service, construction workforce development, and assurance) so the underpinning policies and processes run smoothly and seamlessly.
You’ll work closely with the Trade Unions, oversee internal and external communications, deliver training and development programmes, provide robust workforce forecasting, planning and reporting ensuring that Inclusion & Diversity is always at the forefront of SZC’s culture and behaviours.
Location: Leiston, Suffolk with travel to London & Somerset

Employment basis: The role is expected to be a full-time position however we are open to discussing a more flexible/part-time approach where possible
Salary: circa £85,000 - £95,000 + car allowance + benefits

You’ll be a senior professional in the world of HR strategy and leadership, experienced within matrixed organisations and possess the ability to manage and maintain resilience in a changing and ambiguous environment. Any background in energy, construction or nuclear industries would be a plus, as would regulated and unionised environments.
Collaboration and stakeholder management is key to this position as you’ll need to influence and challenge at a senior level as well as provide counsel to ensure successful outcomes, so you’ll be able to demonstrate strong relationship building skills with a reputation for integrity, evoking a trust and openness in senior leadership, colleagues, stakeholders, and team members alike.
You’ll be results orientated, with a focus on continuous improvement in all areas of your work and be able to provide clarity with strong written and verbal communication skills.
